Sycamore seeds have been linked with Atypical Myopathy, it has been found that toxins from seeds of the Sycamore tree are linked to this fatal disease. Atypical myopathy has recently caused deaths in horses in my area with veterinary call outs being seen in the recent Spring and Autumn. The disease causes a massive amount of muscle damage which can lead to fatal kidney failure, some horses will be found dead in the fields by their owners. Horses suffering from this show signs of looking sick and some with colic symptoms, and often brown urine is passed. Affected horses can sometimes be treated with aggressive fluids given by the vet.
In all cases found around here a sycamore tree was identified on the pasture where the owner did not or was unaware of it and it is thought that horses only ingest the seeds when there is little grass or other edible matter.
If you have sycamore trees near or in the fields with horses in, it is best to have it felled or fenced off and a petrol vacuum is best used over the area to remove as many seeds as possible, or you can strip clear the field but that is time consuming and unless you keep a record of where you have been it is hard, though electric fencing post are the best way of doing this, moving it up a foot at a time once that line is cleared. The collected seeds are best burnt or disposed off by other means.

Reviews:
1. I'm certain that you'll see a difference on bute, but there are also inexpensive things that can help like micronised linseed and there are lots of good reports about using turmeric - a couple of pounds for a kilo bag from Tesco.
2. My mare has arthritis due to injury on hock. My vet told me to keep her on bute for the rest of her life. I wanted joint supplement. I used Cortiflex HA which worked well. The I found Equimins who told me about Flexi Joint. I changed over gave her less Flexi Joint Than the Cortiflex she went from strength the strength and I weaned her of the bute. she went 99.9% sound. I also use Cider Vinegar
3. A couple weeks ago you recommended Equimins Flexijoint to me for my arthritic mare. Just wanted to say thanks!! It has made a massive difference. Way more so than the 2 sachets a day of danilon did! She started on the danilon when the devils relief she was on seemed to stop having much effect and tbh it hasn't really made much difference, she was still totally lame just in the field, and I have been debating THAT decision. But!! She has been on the flexijoint about 2 weeks now and she's gone from trotting like a cripple to only just noticeably lame which is fine for her, she's retired and I just want her to be comfortable to potter round the field.
She travelled to her new home like a beaut and of course had a hooley round in the field so she's probably sore from that, but she looked ok doing it and didn't seem in pain. When she's settled I'm thinking of taking the danilon down to 1 a day and see if it makes any difference, I doubt it will and there's no point pumping her with stuff she doesn't need.
4. I changed my pony onto this and have had really good results. I was using Cortaflex HA liquid but only saw any benefit if I kept it at the maximum dose and even then he was nowhere near as good as he is now on the Flexijoint.
5. I really rate it
Did lots (and I mean a lot ) of comparisons before I bought - the Equimins has the highest levels of chrondroitin / glucosamine / MSM / HA I could find. It's good value too, I actually now feed quite a bit less than the recommended rate & find it's still effective.
We feed it to our older mare with spavin, who's now currently sound - hope it helps!
6. I also have my pony and dog on Equimins Flexijoint - excellent results and nowhere near as expensive as Cortaflex or the like. Also they give you a money back guarantee
7. I'm on Flexijoint for an achey hip, and my TB stopped dragging his back toes after a few days on it. Used their products for years. Good quality at reasonable prices, can't beat Equimins
8. My mares on supplease but will be changing to flexijoint because its better value for money even with the buy 2 get one free from supplease. Ive heard boswella is brilliant but my mare hasnt got bad athritis just a clicky hock and it has helped along with linseed.
9. Aloe Vera has always been a very good supplement for horses with Arthritic problems, see if you can find a Forever Living Product distributor in your area,OR you can go in on www.healthspan.co.uk and get Aloe Vera Tablets http://www.healthspan.co.uk/search.a...ry=aloe%20vera and Green Lip Mussels http://www.healthspan.co.uk/other_joint_...-p310-c125.aspx they work brilliantly together ! I use the above for the same problem but its in the hock of my old mare she now like a spring chicken again and give 2 capsules of GLM and 5 Aloe Tablets per day,I started with 4 capsules and 10 tablets and then gradually reduced it
10. My horse was diagnosed last may, Arthritis of the Coffin joint, He had 3 HA injections & has been mostly sound since, Hard ground & ruts are the biggest problems, he is sound to hack but cant school, he cant cope with circles & as he's a big lad he always seems to be going round a corner! Since Christmas however he's been getting worse, I had the vet out last week who said to start him on one Bute a day, I have had him since a foal & he was only just 13 when he was diagnosed, Its just not fare, trouble is I don't think that he realised that he has a problem. Its totally heart breaking, but he went from BSJA to Happy Hack surprisingly well & he's happy in him self (that's the most important thing) he is on a very good joint supplement, Its one of those things that can only be managed im afraid, I could still cry most days when I think about it!
11. Linseed has helped my creaky joints so consider micronized linseed
12. R A oil double strength by solvitax absolutely swear by this, horse was stiff every day due to arthritis got this into his system was just like he used to be and not too pricey either, honestly give it a try.
13. I swear by Equimins Flexijoint. Started my mare on it last august and within 3 months she was like a new horse x
14. My mare is on FlexiJoint as the whole yard bar one is. My mare was really stiff last week not bendy or smooth which is not like her. I told the Y?O and she had informed me that she had run out of F/J and was sorry she had not told me, I had a pot at home as I order one in reserve and she started it the same day, when I next rode her a few days later she ( my mare) was back to her old self again. I swear by this supplement.
15. Another vote for this supplement
16. I have a 22 year old tried them all must say I tried equmims Flexijont and their Inflam-e- rase and im really impressed horse stride is longer and is sound. The other I found really good supplezze gold and premier flex. Tried riaflex waste of time same with cortaflex joint surpreme flex vetroflex but liked vetrofen. This horse has major leg problem.
17. My donkey struggled to get up after rolling and also stepping down the raised step which we put in for her to see over the door - a few weeks on flexijoint and she has no problems
18. My dog is on flexijoint he has hip displacia and has improved on Flexijoint.
19. I keep my pony on livery where the YO uses Flexijoint on her animals and many liveries do, my daughters pony has hiplock and would have to be pushed back every time it locked. YO recommended I try it and so far 2 months down the line it has not locked up whereas before it would lock up 2 times a week. My daughter even won a jumping competition on him. We will now keep him on F-J for life.
20. I did tonnes of research on joint supplements a little while a go and narrowed it down to Equimins Flexijoint just because the reviews say that its brilliant for the price, also Supplease gold was another and then there was on another that I cant remember. I thought Id try Flexijoint first as it was the best value and then work my way up. It did work and I was impressed as I did notice an improvement. My mare damaged her fetlock in the field last winter and whilst shes sound, it swells a bit and I wanted something to support it. She was also stiff all over and when she was little a wall fell in on her hind so her hip has been rebuilt. She 19 now. Anyway Like I say I did notice improvement but then I started looking into the benefits of turmeric and decided it was dead cheap so it was worth a try if my mare would eat it. The change in her has been absolutely amazing! Shes full of it and her fetlock no longer swells at all. Shes recently started being stabled over night so I thought shed probably stiffen up but nope. She comes out each morning with a spring in her step and no swelling. Also within three weeks of being on it her sarcoid has completely disappeared and shes got a redder chestnut. Shes never looked or felt better. If you are on Facebook then join turmeric users group. Its important to feed it with either olive, linseed or coconut oil and some freshly ground pepper so the body can absorb it. Start off with a teaspoonful and up it until you see a change. My mare is the fussiest ever so I had to start with just a pinch and up from there. Shes on about two to three teaspoonfuls now.
21. Flexi Joint ...Superb product, has done wonders for my ex racer who has had numerous problems, he's better than he has ever been!
